Status: Part time, 10+ hours/week
Location: Remote, with some travel (e.g., to detention centers, press conferences and local
actions). We encourage applications from across Florida; some priority will be given to
applicants in the vicinity of Jacksonville or Gainesville.

Background
Immigrant Action Alliance (IAA) is a 501c3 non-profit organization that provides direct support to
our immigrant community, including hundreds of people detained at Broward Transitional Center
in Pompano Beach, Krome Service Processing Center in Miami, and Baker County Detention
Center in Macclenny. We have been leaders in the fight to shut down the Glades County
Detention Center in Moore Haven; currently, ICE has ceased detaining people there as of
March 2022.
Summary of Principal Responsibilities:
The Campaign Organizer will work closely with the Executive Director and the Monitoring Fellow
to monitor conditions at local detention centers, document abuses, support detained people and
their families, collaborate with formerly detained activists, and lead IAA’s efforts at the forefront
of the campaign to shut down the Baker County Detention Center in Macclenny, Florida.
Specific Responsibilities:
1. Regularly coordinate with detained people to monitor facility conditions.
2. Supervise and collaborate with the Monitoring Fellow, who has lived experience with
detention and who will monitor, document, and expose abuses and human rights
violations inside Baker County Detention Center, as well as develop strategies and
actions to support the movement to abolish detention.
3. Facilitate bi-weekly strategy meetings among 20+ coalition partners; conduct
background tasks to support success of these meetings (e.g., onboarding new coalition
members and researching and soliciting agenda items).
4. Collaborate with coalition members to persuasively and thoroughly document patterns of
abuse through reporting to oversight agencies.
5. Respond rapidly, strategically and innovatively to reports of abuse, human rights
violations and retaliation, in coordination with coalition members.
6. Administrate coalition listservs.
7. Serve on coalition working groups (flexible based on strengths and experience).
8. Speak to media to offer information and commentary; speak at and help organize press
conferences; connect detained and formerly detained people with press.
9. Work in solidarity with detained people, following their lead in how they want to be
supported–whether through research, public reporting, connection to legal or financial
resources, etc.
10. Occasionally lead or collaborate on individual release campaigns.
11. Conduct additional short-term projects to support the organization as needed.
12. Meet regularly with the executive team.
Required Qualifications:
1. Works collaboratively in multicultural contexts and in solidarity with detained people and
their families.
2. Communicates well, including solid writing, speaking, listening and facilitation skills.
3. Embodies IAA’s core values (see below).
4. Thinks strategically about both the success of the shut down campaign and the needs of
the coalition.
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Speaks a foreign language (Spanish preferred) in addition to English.
Compensation: $25.00 per hour
